You may perceive a show about “how fabric is made” to be stodgy and technical. But come with us to the Outer Hebrides of Scotland to witness how the famous Harris Tweed Authority is protecting the brand ‘Harris Tweed’ from becoming a generic word (because the fabric is simply THAT iconic).
This documentary produced by Sartorial Talks explores the astonishing world of perhaps the most famous fabric in the world. Harris Tweed is the only global fabric in existence which is manually woven at home, powered by the feet of the weavers. From the mill, Harris Tweed Hebrides trucks drivers deliver (to more than 200 home weavers all over the island) big bolts of warp-direction yarn, along with bundles of individual weft-direction yarn. The weavers then load the bolt onto their bicycle-like powered machine and position the loose yarn into a template in order to manually weave it..
